Sometimes when they are hard to find it is good to see where your neighbors ones are, and that will give you a good idea how far from the road the water meter is located. If you start at the left-hand side the same distance from the road as your neighbors water meter then walk parallel with the road until you locate the rectangular plastic box. With a screw driver lift the lid. You will find at one end of the box a slot so you can leave the lid up. Please be careful once the lid is up as there could be spiders, ants or other creepy crawlies in there! If it hasn’t been checked for a while, you may need to dig out dirt and sand. Once it is all clear, you will find a lever or a tapped hand (if it is old). The lever should be running parallel to the water service. All you need to do is turn it so that the lever is at 90° to the service.

With the tap “T handle,” you just have to turn it clocks wise. It is sometimes best to have the front hose tap running so you know when the water is off. If you find you are unable to turn the water off, call the Gold Coast City Council on 1300 694 222 so they can get someone out there to make repairs. This is why it is a good reason to check it out before you have a problem. If you find you have any problems and need some help, please call your local Gold Coast plumber.

Plumber Gold Coast

Plumbers specialize in the installation and maintenance of water systems. Like electricians, they are required to obtain a license from a trade or technical school and have a background in various aspects of industrial, domestic, and communal pipe work, water heater repairs, water treatment (such as water cleaning and purification), drainage, sewer networking, dynamics of water flow, water storage, temperature adjustment, and dangers of water hazards. Plumbers get their name from the Latin Plumbum, for “lead,” since the ancient Romans used pipes made from lead.

The term, therefore, refers to the metallic element out of which their main building material is made. Can you imagine how much trouble you'd be in if you didn't have a reliable plumbing system in place? What if the toilet backed up, drains got blocked, and the hot water service marked it. You'd be in deep doo doo literally! So thanks God for plumbers! Interestingly, Einstein, the father of modern mathematics, admired the plumber: "If I would be a young man again and had to decide how to make my living, I would not try to become a scientist or scholar or teacher.

I would rather choose to be a plumber in the hope to find that modest degree of independence still available under present circumstances." - Albert Einstein, The Reporter, 18 November 1954 Not too long after this remark was published, Einstein was granted an honorary membership into the Plumbers and the Steamfitters Union, A.F.L., in Washington D.C., which made the genius, in effect, a plumber. The new title pleased Einstein, although he supposedly wasn’t looking for or expecting praise. When it comes to solving the great mathematical puzzles of the universe, Einstein would have been the first to be considered.

Who would have known that he would be the person to call to straighten out the water pipes, too? Plumbers quite often get called on in times or emergency and these can happen at all hours of the day and night. Remember to treat your local plumber kindly. If he operates a 24/7 business, he probably doesn't get a lot of sleep! Plumbers are unsung heroes. These tradesmen and women work hard at very demanding jobs and have crucial knowledge and understanding regarding that basic necessity that every civilization and human being needs to thrive and survive: water! These plumbers make sure that every single person has healthy water to drink every single day and clean water for bathing.

They are lifesavers!

Fixing a broken pipe under a concrete slab

Fixing A Broken Pipe Beneath A Concrete Slab

One of the most difficult plumbing problems to fix is repairing a broken pipe that is in the ground. Depending upon the depth of the pipe itself, it could take several hours just to dig around the leak, that's if you know where it is. Using a backhoe can probably speed up the process, but you will have to dig until you can see the entirety of the pipe and evaluate where the leak actually is before it can be repaired. Unfortunately, this would be an easier problem to deal with in comparison to what you have to do when you actually have the pipes under a concrete slab. Here are some tips on repairing this broken pipe without having to destroy your existing concrete.

Digging Around The Concrete

In most cases, if the pipe is traveling parallel to the concrete slab, which could be a walkway, all you have to do dig to decide far enough down to find the pipe, and then dig inward just a little in order to gain access to the pipe that is leaking. This is actually a good way to go about this because, from the side, you can see where the leak is actually occurring based upon the heavy amounts of water in the dirt. Although this could take a little extra time positioning your backhoe so as not to damage the concrete, and also making sure that you don't take away the supporting dirt above so much that the concrete cracks, you can get to the leak quickly, fix it, and bury everything back to normal once again.

Times like this you need an Emergency Plumber Gold Coast!

Remove A Portion Of the Concrete

If you need to remove the concrete, you should only remove a portion of the concrete instead. This can happen if the pipe is running perpendicular, or crossing, beneath the concrete itself. If that is where the leaky is, you only have to take out a portion of the concrete to gain access to the leak, something that will save you a significant amount of time and money to get everything repaired. Dealing with leaky pipes is never a fun chore. If you have to fix them, it's always better to have easy access. When pipes are buried under the ground, it takes a considerable amount of work and effort just to get there, but it's even worse if you have concrete on top. These tips should help you reduce the amount of digging, and replacing of concrete, that may be necessary if this ever happens to you.
